Station Hotel - Station Lane

Built around 1840 in response to the need created by travellers using the new railway, the Station Hotel is outside the village in Nottinghamshire, adjacent to the site of the former Kegworth railway station. In early days it was called the Station Inn and provided accommodation for passengers. By 1889, it had assumed the more grandiose Hotel name, but demand for this type of accommodation declined as years went by and it became just an ordinary pub. William Hardy was licensee from 1846 to 1870 when John Portch came from the Flying Horse in the village to take on the license.

For many years, right up until the closure of Kegworth station in 1968, it was possible for rail travellers to park a bicycle in one of the outhouses of the Inn for 2d (less than 1p ) per day;
